The true warmth of Sicily is the people, who are curious then welcoming. This is particularly surprising and impressive when you consider the history of Sicily is defined by the almost continuous series of invaders through its history.

Once they know you, their generosity is embarrassing to those from other ‘richer’ countries where such social niceties seem to be firmly in the past.

To understand Sicilians is a lifetime’s work, their mentality is as diverse as the scenery. Warm blooded and passionate, conversations between friends can seem like arguments if you cannot understand the language. Children are revered, babies and small children are considered public property to be fussed over, in public a crying baby is regarded with affection and boisterous children are complemented for having ‘spirit’.
