Weather
The climate in Sicily is a key factor in the quality of life and there are still four distinct seasons. In autumn the forests in the mountains become a kaleidoscope of changing colours, then a short crisp winter that allows skiing on Etna and Castelbuono. Spring brings early blossom and wild flowers, with fruit naturally early rather than forced by modern practises. However, the summer is the dominant season, with blue skies and sun.
A very cold day in Sicily in winter is 5c; it is unheard of to get frost at sea level. Normally in winter the daytime tends to be approximately 15c, this is t-shirt weather to those coming from northern Europe!
This climate allows properties to be used for virtually all of the year, thus either offering more holiday time or opportunity to rent out the property.
The hottest months of July and August can either be enjoyed as the northern Italians do, flocking to Sicily, or the use of altitude in choice of property location takes the edge off the temperature.
The slow relaxed pace of life in Sicily reflects the climate; on hotter days the appeal of the beach or a siesta after lunch is hard to resist.
